Spencer Millear for Como Ward
Spencer Millear is standing for Election as a Councillor in the Stonnington Council Elections to be held in October 2024.
He is standing for Election to the newly formed Como Ward, one of 9 newly formed Wards which will each have 1 single Councillor to serve them.
This replaces the existing 3 Wards of Stonnington which each have 3 serving Councillors.
Vision
To represent the best interest of residents, businesses and service providers in the Como Ward.
To advocate for the Como Ward, ensuring residents and business operators have access to independent advice, impartial perspective and strong Corporate Governance and Council accountability.
To be of service to the Stonnington Council and Community and to be a commercially minded contributor as one of nine Stonnington Councillors.
To ensure Council focus on its primary purpose of providing the highest standard of amenities and services to residents and business owners without the interference of political agendas.
To see a respectful and inclusive culture within Chambers and throughout the whole Stonnington Council that is fit for purpose.
To bring a Company Director’s perspective and fiduciary duty of care as a Councillor to the Stonnington Council.
To improve public perception of Council by setting a higher standard of communication, governance and leadership.
Recognise that the Role of Council is Complex and Everchanging.
To ensure that the longer term vision for Stonnington Council is aligned with a sustainable and environmentally sound plan of action.
To ensure the Council remains focused on ensuring the presentation of Stonnington is maintained and improved i.e. repairs, cleaning and tidiness.
Governance
Councillors and Executives alike need to be transparent with regards to external affiliations, business interests and otherwise that could influence their representation.
Spencer is a Liberal Party member however his nomination is free from sponsorship, influence or otherwise.
Spencer is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and will bring his understanding of Fiduciary Duty to the Stonnington Council.
Spencer has been a Non Executive Director of ASX Listed GrainCorp and a Director of its Largest Shareholder. This experience enables him to advise and administer sound Corporate Governance and navigate any complexities.
Spencer strongly believes that any financial reporting to Councillors and to the community needs to show the Balance Sheet and Profit & Loss Figures in a concise manner with full disclosure on expenditure v budget discrepancies and relevant explanations.
Accounts need to be clear and concise.
Spencer understands that as a Stonnington Councillor, he is responsible for contributing towards the workplace culture of the Stonnington Council and as a Chair or participant of a meeting it is my role to see that respect and patience is shown to all participants and that the minority view has a fair hearing.
